through the process of electrolysis. This is accomplished by passing a current through
stainless steel plates that are submerged in water within the generator.
⇒ This current causes the water to bubble and
release both hydrogen and oxygen. These gases are then fed into the air intake of the car and mix with the fuel
used for combustion.
⇒ Because these gases burn hotter than gasoline or diesel alone, the vehicle achieves better gas
mileage and cleaner emissions as a result of the modification.

⇒ Most of the HHO work done in the last few years was to try and improve the amount of gas produced from
the generators. Various metals were tried to see if they could improve the yield and at present it seems that
stainless steel is the best candidate.
⇒ This is because it produces a good amount of gas during electrolysis and is also resistant to corrosion
and pitting that other materials suffer.
⇒ The balance that stainless steel provides between efficiency and durability makes it the ideal choice
for use in helping make HHO work for most cars.
• Size, shape, and spacing matters
⇒ The other area of how an HHO Generator Works is centered on the size, shape and spacing of the plates these HHO
generators. There are various designs on the market that all claim to have the highest output and any of them
will do a great job for your car.
⇒ The key seems to be having enough of these plates to support a good amount of electrolysis and finding
the proper spacing as to not cause interference between the plates during operation.
⇒ Older designs that had the plates stacked too close caused a decrease in output because the bubbles
that one plate would produce could prevent the water from contacting an adjacent plate completely.
⇒ Once these plates were spaced a little farther apart the volume of gas increased considerably.

⇒ Another interesting bit of HHO work is investigating the concept of pulsing the
current that is being passed through the HHO generator to see if this affects the volume of gas produced.
⇒ Normally a DC current is used to power these HHO generators but recent experiments have shown a slightly
higher yield when this current is pulsed somewhat.
⇒ Finding the right frequency and duration of these pulses may lead to even higher yields from the exact
same HHO generators available today.
The really exciting thing about all of this HHO work is that most of it is being done in basements and garages by HHO
enthusiasts.
This technology has not been embraced by any auto manufacturer and is still being built and installed by
car owners themselves in the hopes of achieving better gas mileage.
